Spin, Spin, Spin
June 20, 2015
1:00 – 4:00 pm
Making your own yarn isn’t hard. In this workshop you will make a skein of yarn using a simple drop spindle. I will give a short introduction to various animal and plant fibres and students will get the chance to make a “batt” that they will spin. They will learn the basics of using the drop spindle, removing yarn from the spindle and preparing the yarn. They will make enough yarn to knit up into a small project (like a little cowl), or a larger project combining hand spun yarn with yarns from their own stash.
Materials (drop spindle and fleece) included.

Stitching the Landscape
Sunday, June 21, 2015
9:30 – 1:30 pm
In this 3 hour workshop, participants will experiment with combining acrylic paint and simple embroidery and appliqué techniques to reinterpret the local landscape.
Using personal cameras, we will go outside and collect images from the breathtakingly beautiful surroundings in Rocky Harbour. Back at the studio will simplify an image and create a painting on a 5”x7” piece of sturdy terraskin paper. We will then embellish our paintings with simple stitching and appliqué. Our finished work will then be mounted on a 5”x7” stretched canvas or block of wood.
All materiasl included. Participants must bring their own camera or phone.
