Barbara Bellows Art is located at 16 Harbourview Drive in Norris Point.
To find the studio take a left onto Harbourview Drive shortly after the Town Office (there is a red house on the corner). Pass the first blue-green house. Just before the crest of the hill you’ll see another large blue-green building- that’s our boathouse and art studio. Enter at the back of the boathouse. The house has a #16 Bellows sign. (Note that Harbourview Drive is a loop. The other end meets Main St. next to the playground)
About the Studio: My studio was formerly located in the Norris Point Cottage Hospital. I moved my working studio into the back of our “Boat House” three years ago. With a cathedral ceiling, and north-facing windows, I have good light and lots of space for displaying my work, as well as having storage and painting space.
About the Artist: Always taking delight in creating art, I drew and painted often as a child. As an adult I took art courses when I could and ended up at Lebanon College in New Hampshire, teaching art for 15 years and heading the art department for 6 years. After arriving in NL almost 10 years ago, I taught art privately until the pandemic hit. Belly dancing inspired portraits and figure drawings. Breast cancer inspired mandalas and dream paintings. Nature walks, hiking, sailing, kayaking and gardening inspired landscapes and seascapes. I work in oil, pastel, watercolour and acrylics.
How does Gros Morne inspire your creativity? It’s the mountains meeting the ocean. It’s the change of the seasons. I love the way light hits the mountains and the sea. The different cloud formations. I have seen clouds here that I have never seen elsewhere. They are absolutely phenomenal. I work outdoors when possible, but at all times carry a camera to capture those fleeting moments so I can include them in my paintings.
Seasonal Hours of Operation: By appointment or by chance.
