Studio 167

Studio 167 is located in Cow Head. From Main Street, turn onto onto Veterans Memorial Drive (Back Cove Café on corner), drive across the isthmus, take the first road on the left and follow to the Lighthouse Parking.  Grey house on the left. On Google Maps you can search for Cow Head Trail Ampitheatre Parking Lot.

About the Studio: Studio 167 – Cow Head is a summer studio space, originally a garage converted to work on a series of large canvases. The majority of Shawn’s oil paintings are painted on location but recently she has been exploring encaustic (wax) and fiber which is done in the studio.

About the Artist: Shawn McNevin lives in Cow Head NL and Chelsea QC.  She worked as a Graphic Designer until 1986, in 1989 graduated from the Ottawa School of Art and has been working as a visual artist ever since. She has taught at the Ottawa School of Art, Nepean Visual Arts, the City of Ottawa, and privately in NL and QC. Shawn has participated in numerous exhibitions in the Ottawa ON, Outaouais Region QC and the Northern Peninsula NL.  Her work has been acquired by public, private and corporate collectors (National & International).  Her unique painting style is highly regarded for its strong emotional quality and for capturing the ambiance of the moment.

Artist Shawn McNevin has a unique painting style inspired by the raw beauty found in Gros Morne National Park.

How does Gros Morne inspire your creativity? I had been struggling with the direction my artwork was taking me; walking back from Lower Head (Shallow Bay), wind blowing, waves crashing – it suddenly became so clear. The raw beauty of the Newfoundland landscape had such an impact it became my muse. That was 23 years ago.

Seasonal Hours of Operation: Other than the Studio Tours, Studio 167 is open by appointment or by chance.
