Traditions by Miranda is located at 31 Main Street in Rocky Harbour. The studio is in the Town Square building and is grey with a red door.
About the Studio: Traditions By Miranda was established in 2014. Miranda started out working from a home studio where she sold her artwork online, and wholesaled to other gift shops in the area. In May 2019 she decided to venture out and open her own gallery. The space she is currently in is owned by the Town Of Rocky Harbour. It was developed as an artist in residence building where artists can incubate and grow their business while working in an open studio and showcase their artwork. This will be her 3rd season there with the intentions of occupying her own gallery in the 2022 season.
About the Artist: Miranda is a self taught artist. She has been dabbling in an array of art mediums since the age of 14. She loves and has a passion for all art forms. She established a career outside of art with the Dept. Of Fisheries and Oceans for 14 years, only doing art part time. In 2014 she created Traditions By Miranda because she wanted to take her artwork further. From 2014 – 2019 she did this part time while working her “day job”. As life was going by her heart longed more and more to become a full time artist. So after a 15 month leave of absence from DFO she resigned July 2020. She has never been happier and more content doing what she thinks she was born and meant to do. She draws inspiration every day from living in such a beautiful, nature and culture rich province. Her mind is reeling all the time with how she can incorporate her surroundings in her art work. She does wall art along with functional art pieces such as a 3D Wine glass that she created and has a full copyright to the design. She also incorporates 3D sculptures into wall art using clay/plaster and resin.
Traditions by Miranda features unique artwork created with clay/plaster and resin. Many of her pieces are inspired by the ocean.
How does Gros Morne inspire your creativity? I am inspired daily by just looking out my studio window at the ocean and knowing everything that inhabits it. I use this to create my art forms. For example I just designed a 3D wine glass to showcase our very own endangered Leatherback turtle.
What can visitors expect during Open Studio Days? I plan to have a piece of my artwork done in several steps so they can visualize the process from beginning to end.
Seasonal Hours of Operation: Seven days per week, Monday to Saturday 10 am – 7 pm and Sundays 11 am – 4 pm.
