The students from Long Range Academy in Cow Head and Gros Morne Academy in Rocky Harbour were at the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse last week to take part in drawing workshops with artist Les Noseworthy. The workshops provided instruction in drawing techniques and also gave the students an opportunity to collaborate on a canvas of the lighthouse with Noseworthy.

Noseworthy’s interest in maritime history and lighthouses led to a collaboration with the Canadian Coast Guard Alumni Association and the exhibit Let There Be Light. The exhibit includes 74 paintings of the province’s lighthouses and is found at the Cape Spear Lighthouse gallery. Noseworthy is also the author of a book by the same name.

The Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse is a popular attraction in Gros Morne National Park. Operated by Parks Canada, the lighthouse features interpretive exhibits about the communities of the national park and how people made their living from the sea. Keep your eyes open, during the summer there are often cultural events on the calendar.
