Creative Gros Morne is excited to present you Sarah F Maloney our artist in residence from July 26 to August 9, 2024
After a Bachelor’s degree in visual arts and psychology from Concordia University (Montreal), Sarah F. Maloney obtained her Master’s degree from the Glasgow School of Arts (Scotland). In 2016, she decided to settle roots in Sept-Îles a small mining town beyond the fiftieth parallel and pursue her art career closer to home.
Sarah’s work questions the geopolitical connections resulting from the industrial exploitation of the Northern Quebec, mainly focused on the extraction of iron ore and the exploitation of the boreal forest. Her multidisciplinary practise is inspired by the “founding discourse” of the North Shore and the history of workers employed in heavy industries in search of raw materials. Her artwork utilises typical industrial by-products of the region and creates works that echos multiple voices that form the basis of the industrial imagination of the North Shore.
