Storytelling for Tour Guides Workshop

Posted by: Creative Gros Morne , January 13, 2021

An Introduction to Storytelling for Tour Guides Virtual Workshop with storyteller Gary Green is being offered by Creative Gros Morne in Spring 2021. The series of five 90 minute workshops will occur via Zoom on Thursday afternoons at 2:30 pm on May 20, 27, June 3, 10 and 17. No prior storytelling experience is required and the cost is just $50 for the five sessions. Participants must register in advance. Space is limited and registration closes on May 10, 2021.

Are you a tour guide who would like to sharpen your storytelling skills?

Would you like to learn some techniques to more effectively engage with your guests?

Do you have stories that you would like to develop and share with visitors?

If you answered YES to either of these questions, then this Introduction to Storytelling for Tour Guides Workshop is for you!

About the workshop:

Storytelling is an art and everyone has a story to tell! Through instruction and exercises, workshop participants will learn the basics of storytelling, including the various types of stories and how to select, learn and perform them. Participants will work with a story of their own choosing.  If you are up for writing your own stories, some of these classic techniques will help you understand what makes a great story and support you in crafting tales of your own.  Links to online resources and materials for exercises will be provided.

About Gary Green:

Gary is an author and storyteller who has been telling stories to young and old alike in a variety of settings from campfire to theatres for many years.  Gary has told tales of the sea to passengers aboard the schooner J&B operating out of St. John’s, NL and briefly Halifax, NS.  He has performed at numerous venues and events in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as outside the province.  Examples include: the Cape St. Mary’s Performance Series, the Kittiwake Dance Theatre, the Norseman Dinner Theatre, the St. John’s Storytelling Festival, CBC Radio and network television as part of the series Legends and Lore of the North Atlantic.  For over ten years he has been conducting storytelling workshops at the annual Vinland Music Camp in Lomond.  He is a regular performer, and sometimes a host, at the St. John’s Storytelling Circle.  Gary is also on the Board of Directors for the St. John’s Storytelling Festival.
